Mercian Heritage Research

Mercian Heritage Research* is the new name for the organisation formerly known as North Staffordshire Heritage. The change reflects the wider scope our work has taken in recent years, extending from the Midlands to the national and international contexts that shaped Britain’s development.

Founded by the late Betty Martin, an historical geographer, the foundation continues her commitment to rigorous, independent study. Betty’s work on the economic and social history of the Potteries laid the foundations for the organisation, and Mercian Heritage Research will post a series of articles she wrote before her death.

Today, Mercian Heritage Research is dedicated to exploring a wide range of subjects, including industrial history, transatlantic trade, and the evolution of Britain’s economic and social landscape. We will update our website to reflect this new chapter, providing information on our research areas, current projects, and forthcoming publications.

*Please Note: This site is still under reconstruction. We anticipate the work will take two or three weeks. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this may cause you.
